Dr. Marina Hughes
Consultant Cardiologist in Congenital Heart Disease, Cardiology Department, Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambridge and Great Ormond St Hospital, United Kingdom


Dr Marina Hughes’ career has focussed on non-invasive cardiac imaging.  Her passion and special expertise is Cardiac MRI and Cardiac CT, for adults and children with congenital and inherited heart disease. She has experience in service development, management, research, specialist clinical imaging and patient care.

After medical school in Western Australia, Marina completed a PhD and trained in clinical paediatrics in Oxford, UK.  She then trained in paediatric cardiology and became consultant and Echocardiology lead at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. 
After moving back to the UK in 2006, Marina worked as Clinical Lead for Cardiac MRI at Great Ormond St Hospital in London, building a leading service, scanning more than 1000 paediatric and adult patients with congenital heart disease per year.

Marina is now the Clinical Lead for Adult Congenital Heart Disease at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, where she establishing an advanced imaging service for patients with congenital heart disease.
