Dr. Kai-hang Yiu
Dr. Yiu received his MBBS degree in 2001 and completed his Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) at the University of Hong Kong in year 2012. Further, he has defended his PhD these titled “Clinical application of cardiac imaging: echocardiography and computed tomography” in 2016 at the Leiden University, the Netherlands. He has published over 150 peer-review original articles in international peer-review journals. Among these, he was either first or corresponding author over 50 of them; including 18 articles with impact factors exceeding 5 (Maximum 24). He is also leading the cardiology service and the assistant hospital chief executive (Teaching and Education) at the HKUSZ-hospital.
His research interest is on the clinical application of advanced cardiovascular imaging using advanced echocardiography techniques and computed tomography. By using these imaging techniques, he was able to identify subclinical cardiovascular abnormalities that improves management of patients with or at risk of cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, he has established and lead three research study consortiums, namely the Chinese Rheumatology Heart Disease Study (CRADS), Chinese Valvular Heart Disease study (CVATS) and the Chinese Diabetic Heart Disease Study (CDATS) . He is the corresponding author of 7 original articles based on the CVATS of which one of them was published in Circulation and was awarded with the “Distinguished Research Paper Award for Young Investigator 2014: Hong Kong College of Physician”. He is the first and/or corresponding author of 10 original articles and 1 review article based on the CDATS. In addition, he is the first and/or corresponding author 12 original articles and 1 review article based on the CRADS and was recently awarded the Richard Yu Lecture in 2017. Based on the work from these consortiums, Dr. Yiu has secured 3 GRF grants, 1 HMRF grant and 1 ITF-MRP grant with a funding of over 10 million HKD.
