Dr. Andrew Kates

Andrew Kates, MD, FACC is Professor of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine and Director of the Cardiovascular Fellowship Program.  He is a Consulting Cardiologist with Washington University Cardiology Consultants at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Kates earned his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine.  He performed his postgraduate training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the Washington University School of Medicine, where he completed my residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiology. His clinical interests include Preventive Cardiology, transesophageal echocardiography, perioperative cardiac risk assessment and transthyretin related cardiac amyloidosis. 

Dr. Kates’ academic interests are in fellow education and training.  He has served as editor for the 2nd and 3rd editions of the Washington Manual Cardiology Subspecialty Consult book.   He has worked with the American College of Cardiology as part the Training Materials Development Committee for the Fellows’ In-Training Exam and serves on the Question Writing Committee.  He is a member of the Cardiovascular Training Section Leadership Council and the Educational Standards and Outcomes Committee.  

Dr. Kates was Vice Chair for ACC.17 and ACC.18 Annual Scientific Sessions and Chair for ACC.19 and ACC. 20 Annual Scientific Sessions.  He is a member of the Board of Governors for the American College of Cardiology and President of the Missouri Chapter of the ACC.

Dr. Kates has been named as one of the “Best Doctors in St. Louis” for the last twelve years.
