Professor Tse graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1991. He joined HKU in 1996, and was promoted to Professor in 2006, then Chair Professor in 2011. He has received the C.P. Fong Gold Medal in Medicine (1991), John Anderson Gold Medal (1991), Sir Patrick Manson Gold Medal (2000), Outstanding Young Investigator Award (2003), Outstanding Researcher Award (2009), and Faculty Outstanding Research Output Awards (2006; 2018). He delivered the Sir David Todd Lecture at the Annual Meeting of Hong Kong College of Physician (2010) and Hong Kong Heart Foundation Lecture of Hong Kong College of Cardiology (2017); and presented Late-breaking Clinical Trial at the American College of Cardiology Annual Scientific Meeting (2006), the American Heart Association Annual Scientific Meeting (2012); and Heart Rhythm Society Annual Scientific Meeting (2014).
He is an international expert in cardiac pacing and electrophysiology, and cardiovascular regenerative medicine. His research works have significantly contribution on the understanding of the mechanisms as well as development of novel therapies for treatment of heart rhythm disorder. His team is also one of the pioneers in the areas of stem cells and cardiovascular regenerative medicine. He has reported the first human experience and the first human randomized controlled study on the use of catheter based direct intramyocardial delivery of human autologous bone marrow stem cell for treatment of severe coronary artery disease- one the major cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Recently, his recent research focus has been extended to investigate the use of gene-based and pluripotent stem cell-based therapy for heart regeneration as well as drug screening.
Prof. Tse is currently the Associate Editor of Journal of Arrhythmia, and Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, and the members of editorial board of several journals, including Journal of American College of Cardiology, Heart Rhythm and Circulation: Arrhythmias and Electrophysiology. He has published over 590 papers, including original scientific reports in international top ranking scientific journals, such as New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Nature Medicine, Nature Cell Biology, Nature Genetic, Nature Protocol, Nature Communication, Nature Biomedical Engineering, Cell Stem Cell, European Heart Journal, Circulation and Journal of American College of Cardiology.
